FAQs

What information do I need to transfer balances?

To perform a balance transfer to a COPFCU card, you’ll need the following information for each transfer you wish to complete:

  • Dollar amount of the transfer
  • Card issuer
  • Card type: Visa, MasterCard, Discover, et.
  • Full card number
  • Payment address

How long does it take to transfer balances from another card?

Completing the online balance transfer form takes about 10 minutes. Once the form is submitted, it may take up to 2 weeks for you to see the payment to your other card or loan.

If I’m disputing a charge on a card, can I perform a balance transfer?

No, you should not transfer any balance that you are or will be disputing. If you do, you may lose your dispute rights and the zero liability protection against unauthorized transactions and fraud. Contact the card company to verify the dispute procedures and determine your best course of action.

After all balances are transferred, should I close the other card?

Although you may no longer want to use the other card(s), it’s best to keep the cards open to improve or keep a higher credit score. Approximately 35% of your credit score is based on your credit utilization – in other words, your current balances compared to your total available credit. The lower your credit utilization, the better.
