What is a credit union?

A Credit Union is a very special entity whose strength lies in its unique structure and philosophy. A credit union is owned and operated by its members who have accounts. An election is held each year in which members elect a board of directors. The board of directors is strictly a volunteer who is not paid for their time. The board's responsibilities include setting policies and making financial decisions on behalf of the credit union. This democratic structure gives each member a vote, regardless of the size of his or her account.

Credit Unions are a non-profit co-operative. Due to this unique structure credit unions can offer better services at a lower cost. Members, often earn higher returns on their savings while paying lower rates on loans. Any operational surpluses are used to improve existing services or introduce new innovative services. At COPFCU is here to protect and serve your financial interest.
